“The Not-So-Evil Dragon” by Ella (aged 11)

DragonOnce upon an enduring amount of time, there lived a dragon in the mystical blue forest. The dragon lazed on his leafy bed and wrote books for himself to read, about mythical creatures like poor orphans. One day a miracle happened when an editor came into the aqua forest looking for a new author to turn famous and rich. Now the dragon was a popular story writer but was always under pressure to produce a new book every year. One year the dragon wrote a strange story about a dragon who wanted to be an author.

Ethan’s Great Escape – by Cohen (aged 9)

boyOnce upon a time, a little boy named Ethan lived in a very nice neighbourhood, in a very nice house but the people who were raising him were very, very horrible and selfish. Even though they were fat and rich, his punishment was so cruel that they locked him up in the cellar for most of the day and while his mother and father were upstairs eating fudge and custard, Ethan was living on the mould and bacteria off the walls. One night, he heard squeaking and it sounded like a million mice and he was certain because he could smell rat droppings as well. Little tiny mice were chewing the wall and Ethan was happy to see daylight because the wall had disintegrated. Ethan got out and found a new home to live in with nice people.

“The Day I Nearly Died” by Harry (aged 8)

snakeOne day, I fondled the ground and it was hot and dry and so I slithered into a deep, dark hole. I felt uncomfortable with the dirt and the rocks on my face. Soon, I detected vibrations that shook the forest and me hard. I recognised that there was something big out there, something that thought that snakes are yummy. The shadow, as big as a person, chucked a spear at me but I struck out at the shadow and chomped the person on his leg. I slithered out of the deep, dark hole and scrambled into a cool, soft hole.

“Smells of fire” by Harry (aged 8)

Harry 2One night I left the stove on at my stinky house and I was woken by the unfamiliar smell of fire and hoary rubbish that I left on the table. By the time I got to the kitchen, I smelt the fire cooking a stale apple core and a decayed banana peel that smelt gross, and the dog food that smelt nice. The fireman said, ‘’You smell like you haven’t had a bath for 6 months!” and I said, “That’s true”. He sprayed rusty water on me with his big water hose until I smelt as lovely as a rose. While the fire brigade was busy washing me, my house was busy turning into a vessel of lovely ashes.

“The Dream” by Gabby (aged 13)

Charlies RhinoRyan the Rhino had one mission in life and that was to become an undercover member of Charlie’s Angels. The problem was he couldn’t shoot a gun, he was too big and he was not agile on his feet at all. At the Charlie’s Angels course, the gun slipped from his hand and when he bent down, a huge crack meant he had a tear in his pants and the whole class cracked up. His cheeks flamed bright red and he stomped out of the room, which showed the Angels that he was not light on his feet. A trainer said to him, “Ryan, I’m sorry but you can’t be an angel”, but Ryan never gave up his dream of joining Charlie.

“The Brave Bilby” by Harry (aged 8)

bilbyOne day, an extremely brave bilby determinedly dug a burrow in front of a fox. The black and brown bilby kept digging and digging and so did the fox but the bilby was too hard to catch. After two hours, the bilby’s burrow suddenly reached the end and, although the bilby didn’t know it, he had reached the edge of the earth. He made a quick move and covered his head with his ears and then he flew off into space. That day the brave bilby was the first astronaut bilby in the world.

“Evad and Adam” by Cohen (aged 9)

HorseWhen the sun was just setting, Evad, the horsefly felt a tingling in his wings because it happened every sunset. Within seconds, he turned into a magical, black horse with red eyes and wings. Every night Evad flew over the city looking for a boy called Adam who was trapped in a nasty orphanage. As he was about to land, he spotted the orphanage and he flew down to it and there was Adam, sleeping on a dirty old blanket as Evad peeked through the window. Evad gently taped on the window and Adam woke up and the boy leapt on the horse’s back and Evad felt a tingle on his back as the sun began to rise and they rose into the sunrise.

“Jonah’s Bad Day” by Harry (aged 8)

Angry treeThis morning, my friend, Jonah, who is eight year’s old, like me, shot a nerf-bullet to get his mate’s attention in the wood-house. They were both at Jonah’s family’s Californian farmhouse, just beside the magic tree. The bullet hit the magic tree in the face just as it was waking up and that hurt it a lot and it caused the tree to fall. The tree dragged itself up and then whacked the old wood-house into lots of bits of wood until the barn didn’t exist anymore. Jonah and his mate called 000 and the ambulance took them to the hospital.

“Green Devil’s Adventure” by Oliver (aged 8)

Green DevilAfter Green Devil found the key to the Witherdragon portal, he jumped through it, where he saw four large poles with beacons flashing red.  Green Devil was a big, angry devil who could stand until his enemy was dead.  In the floating world, knights that could teleport waited to attack whoever entered their world so when Green Devil entered, he dug a hole to hide in.  He dug so far that when he got to the centre of the floating world, he collected a crystal that looked like an egg.  He threw the crystal to the beacons and it exploded and all the knights fell into the hole.

“The Farm Horse” by Dardo (aged 9)

Plough HorseOn one rainy day in the middle of Brisbane, Joseph my school friend, bought two acres of farm land.  The very next day he was out in the field sowing pumpkin seeds in the damp soil when he spotted an enormous prancing horse running across the seeds he had just sowed. He was very happy because the structure of the equestrian creature was perfect for pulling the plough which meant he could do more in less time. To his surprise the horse was already very experienced with pulling the plough and so they were ready to do a day’s labour together. With the help of his mighty horse my school friend became a successful farmer.
